Pro Era producer Kirk Knight has been a favorite hear at the DopeHouse since we first heard him on Joey Bada$$’s1999 tape. The 20-year-old has developed into one of the best producers patrolling the underground, but now is his time to shine.
His debut album, Late Knight Special, is set to drop October 30, but thanks to NPR, we get to stream the 12-track project eight days ahead of time. With features from Joey Bada$$, Thundercat, Mick Jenkins, The Mind andNoname Gypsy, the dual-threat rapper-producer is sure to bring an introspective, ambitious look to life with his dusty, boom-bap style. This will be an introduction to many, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Kirk takes a couple big swings. If he misses, that’s fine. It’s what a good debut will do — take some risks.
I guess I’ll have to press play below to find out. Stream Late Knight Special below, and pre-order it on iTunes.
