Those fans who have paid close attention to Southern rap know that Florida has one of the country’s most promising young talents. Though hampered by a litany of ongoing legal problems, Kodak Black has garnered a rabid regional fan base and rave reviews from those critics who have sifted through the din to find his stellar mixtape, Project Baby. Hailing from the Golden Acres Projects in Pompano Beach, the teenager has earned himself comparisons to Boosie BadAzz and shoutouts from fellow deep South stalwart Kevin Gates. Two days ago (Oct. 24), Drake posted a video of himself dancing to “SKRT” on his Instagram.
The move prompted eye rolls in some corners, including from Earl Sweatshirt. The Los Angeles rapper took to his Twitter page to point out that Drake has made a habit of jumping on waves when it might benefit his own brand.
To be clear, it wasn’t unrelenting hate–Earl went on to acknowledge the nuance of the situation, and he made it clear he was stopping short of demanding Drake give all his favorites a label deal.
