Back with his first official release since 2015, Johannesburg born producer, Two Point Owe now based in Germany, puts out a solo beat tape, titled “Sunday Beat Cooking”. The Lo-Fi inspired tape pays homage to his 2017 Facebook live series where every Sunday, he would cook up a beat to anyone watching.
Two Point Owe, also known as Boogie, has been banging out what he calls “head nod music” unofficially since 2003 and last year wanted to show people what being a producer is all about with a weekly live Facebook stream of what he called “Sunday Beat Cooking – Season One”.
Sessions usually started with the German based artists listening to some samples and chopping them up, followed by aligning them, adding some drums, high hats and snares. His relatable series shared what it’s like to be in the studio, along with the frustration of not finding the right drums or the joys of picking the perfect sample on the first try. The laid-back series was filled with moments of reflection, laughter and the occasional interruption from his 2-year-old son who obviously loves being in studio!
What you saw on camera is what you get when you listen to this beat tape. Chef Two Point Owe chose his best dishes from the series and has made available a menu of tracks worth trying! Stories of black pride and believing in yourself come through with Boogie’s choice of samples. The use of soft drums and melody not only show Two Point Owe’s musicality but also make it a smooth listen for almost anytime and anyone. His single, which aired earlier this year, features as No.6 on the album.
Sunday Beat Cooking, released via THAT Network, is available on all major platforms including iTunes & Google Play. If you’re looking to get inspired to make your own beats, the original series is still up on Two Point Owe’s Facebook page, with 3min short highlights available on THAT Network’s YouTube channel.
