The term “crossing over” no longer applies solely to moving across genres but also international borders. Rap duo, Part Time Cooks are laying down the blueprint for hip hop musicians looking to breakthrough in the Asian Market.
“While fellow partner in crime Jay Park (featured on California Butterfly) tours the hip hop circuit in the US – appearing on Sway, getting picked up by Jay Z’s Roc Nation – Part Time Cooks are bringing their own international approach to music in Seoul. Recently joining with legendary Korean Hip Hop label Vis Major, Part Time Cooks has been cooking up a trilingual essential selection, bringing California vibes to Seoulites looking for summer romance.
The compelling duo of Black Moss from South Africa and Saul Goode from North Carolina is pushing a new wave of truly global K hip-hop, rhyming in a mixture of the Korean they have learned over the past few years, as well as in their native tongues of Zulu and English. With PTC bringing foreign influences to Korea and Jay Park bringing a bit of Korea to American audiences, the collaboration was particularly fitting for California Butterfly – hitting on universal themes like summer love, but messaging in each’s native langauge.
Along with the audio PTC bless us with a very trippy and fitting music video directed by Fremuse.
