The trial regarding the copyright infringement of the popular song “Blurred Lines” has created quite a stir and, after a two week long examination, it has been ruled that Pharrell and Robin Thicke had “copied” the Gaye’s song and are required to pay $7.4 million dollars. That’s right, the Gaye family will receive almost $7.5 million for the alleged rehash of the classic 1977 hit “Got To Give It up,” however Howard King, the lawyer for Pharrell and Thicke, made the controversial point in court that finding these artists guilty would have an adverse effect on the entire creative process for young musicians, claiming one should not be hounded for honoring a genre. It is hard to say which side is amicable, nevertheless, even after Thicke performed piano medley’s in court and had his ex-wife Paula Patton testify, the judicial system has sided with the Gayes. What are you feelings regarding the outcome of the trial? Do you see the resemblance between the two songs?
