Seeing as how these fellas will be debuting their new EP (which we previewed and absolutely loved!) at Koolin In The City , we thought it appropriate to give the public some insight into what exactly this up and coming trio is all about.
Family First is a hip-hop trio that consists of artists Batsile Ramasodi (Boywonder), Xolile Guqaza (Xrated) and Itumeleng Mofokeng (Base1), who when in the studio together, exhibit a chemistry so blatantly evident you would swear they were really related to one another. They are currently published under Producers Corner Trading Enterprise which is a registered publishing company. Their musical style is very reminiscent of old school boom bap, but in the same breath they are not afraid to experiment with more current sounds. The lyrical substance possessed by all three members alerts listeners that they are not just listening to your run of the mill rapper and this is certainly praiseworthy.
In terms of the list of achievements that Family First has managed attained, it is not something that should be overlooked. Last year in August the Family First member Boywonder dropped his single “MeVsThem” which got playlisted on various radio stations including TswhaneFM, YFM,Voice Of Wits, UCTFM, UJFM just to name a few. In addition to this, two songs from their upcoming release were featured in Hype Magazine. In April 2015 Producers Corner Trading Enterprise were awarded R25 000 sponsorship from the Music mobility fund and these funds will be utilised to help launch their EP on the 31st of May 2015 at Koolin In The City.
Their first release in the form of the Family First EP is a twelve track project that does well in exhibiting the crews lyricism, storytelling and overall perspective on how they view the world around them. The EP includes some of the best South African hip hop pioneers, music producers, engineers, videographers and technicians , who complete the conglomerate namely: Ludwig Bouwer, Inyambo Imenda (Nyambz), Dave Balsher (Draztik), Wayne Robertson (Hipe), Tumelo Mathebula (Tweezy), Thato Mabokela (Dynamic), Sivuyile David Notywala (Mananz), Benny Mtshweni (Thirteen), Andile Fiphaza (Zoocci) and Thabang Moloto (PaperCutt).
Be sure to pull through on the 31st of May (Sunday) as they launch their new EP at Koolin’ In The City. Their performances will be accompanied by other acts including Jonny Joburg, Uno July, and Golden Shovel. The night’s festivities will be hosted by rapper Reason, so you know there will not be a dull moment in sight.
