On Monday, rap star Reason broke the internet with his controversial cover art for his latest freestyle with the hashtag #ReazusChristIsCummin. Over the last four days, it has opened up a heated discussion across social media, TV, radio, and print about religion, misogyny, and the actual race of Jesus.
1000’s of people have weighed in with some accusing Reason of being anti-Christian or anti-Jesus without attempting to grasp the nature of what he was trying to portray. Everyday, Reason released another image further leaking the intentions of the song. What do we know at this point? We know that the original image of “White Jesus” was not meant to depict Jesus at all. It was used to represent Reason and any individual who battles with temptation and sin. We’ve learned that as a Christian and Son of God, Reason is personally tormented with the constant struggle to be a good man and husband.
In #TRVE, Reason transforms the recording booth into a confessional one and delivers arguably the most authentic and personal verse in South African Hip Hop history. #TRVE serves as intro for his latest single, “The Realest”.
